CNA Training in CO – Colorado

If you are looking to work as a certified nursing assistant in the state of Colorado, you will need to complete a training course that has been approved by the Board of Nursing.  After you finish that course, you will challenge the nursing assistant competency exam.  Upon pass the certification exam for a CNA, you will be certified.  An average salary for nursing assistants in Colorado is somewhere around $26,000 annually.  Sometimes a nurse who received training in a foreign country (and is now residing in Colorado) will want to work as a CNA.  There is a process for such nurses to become certified to work as CNAs.  Any nurse who wants to try to receive certification will have to show that they completed no less than 5 nursing fundamental credits.

An application to have a foreign nursing degree accepted for consideration as a nursing assistant must be sent to the State Board of Nursing for Colorado.  Assuming the board accepts the credentials, an individual can then sit for the certification exam.  If they pass the exam, they will be able to seek employment as a CNA.  Otherwise, they will need to follow the process of taking an accredited training course and sitting for the exam to become certified.

Can i take my exam in Colorado if i did my classes in another state?

If you have completed your CNA course in another state and moved to Colorado without doing the exam in that state, then you are eligible to take the Colorado state approved exam for your certification. The only thing you need to make sure is that some skills maybe performed in a slightly different way so you will have to be up to speed on those changes. If however you finished your course and did you exam in that state and then moved to Colorado, you will have to apply for reciprocity – which means you’ll have to contact the state nursing board to have your license transferred.

Can i start working as a cna while im still studying?

Yes you can work but you have to have finished 5 hours of fundamental nursing sessions before you can start working as a cna, however you have to make sure you complete your classes, pass your exams and apply for certification with a time frame of 120 days of first starting your work.
