The Nursing Assistant testing centers in Alabama are not directly within a healthcare facility.  Therefore, you will need to take someone with you to serve as your model patient when you demonstrate your skills.  This person will need to be at least 17 yeas of age.  You can take up to 24 months from your date of completing a training course to sit for your certification exam.  Once you pass your test, you will become a certified nursing assistant.  Some employers will pay for you to receive your nursing assistant training or will reimburse the fees when they hire you or after you are employed with them for a few months.

Is there any age limit on becoming a CNA?

There are no age limits to become a CNA, as long as you can work properly in the healthcare facility and do the daily duties of a cna, there should not be any problem pertaining to your age. The same applies to gender, there is no limitation on who can become a CNA.

Do i require a GED to enroll for a CNA Training Program?

There is no US federal law that specifically mentions that you have to have a high school diploma or an equivalent GED. It is however a good idea to have it since some training centers will ask for it prior to admissions, however all centers will ask if you have completed 10th grade high school education.

How do i keep my license active in Alabama and what if my license lapses?

In order to keep your license active, the state of Alabama requires that you work for a minimum of 8 hours in every 24 month period, this can be in a hospital, nursing home or any other health care facility for monetary compensation, community service and free volunteering does not count towards this 8 hours. For the question of your license lapsing without clocking in the required time in a 24 months’ time frame, this requires you to have your license reactivated – which basically means you have to take the course and sit for the state approved exam again in order to start working as a CNA in a healthcare facility.
