To start a career in Massachusetts as a certified nursing assistant, you will need to complete the certification process. This can be done by attending a nursing assistant training course and then passing the exam for certification. Training programs are offered at many long-term care facilities, colleges and even some branches of the Red Cross. The salary for nursing assistants can range up to about $29,000 each year. To qualify to sit for the certification exam, the course you attend will need to be approved by the state.
In order for a nursing assistant program to be approved in Massachusetts, it must cover at least 75 hours of instruction. Programs must have clinical instruction in addition to the classroom instruction. Training courses are usually on for 3-8 weeks. Of course some programs are more extensive or offered on a more part-time basis and therefore take longer. You can start a rewarding career by training to work as a certified nursing assistant. If you find that you enjoy working in the healthcare industry, you might someday decide to further your career to become a nurse or some other type of healthcare provider. When you are working as a nursing assistant, you will need to complete some continuing education credits each year and renew your certification ever two years.
