In order to become a certified nursing assistant in Arizona, you will need to complete a CNA training program that has been approved by the State Board of Nursing. The current curriculum guidelines for the training programs were passed in 2006 after being devised by the Nursing Assistant Advisory Committee. Of course, updates can be made as needed by the Board of Nursing. The curriculum standards for the nursing assistant training course serve as minimum guidelines. Courses can be designed to cover even more materials, last for longer lengths of time or include more instructional hours. In order to become a certified nursing assistant, individuals must allow a criminal background check, complete an approved training course and pass the certification exam.
There are dozens of training programs in the state of Arizona including the program offered at the Good Samaritan Society of Peoria. Students from this program do exceptionally well on the certification exam with a 100% passing rate on the written segment of the competency exam and a 92% passing rate on the skills segment. The Normal Pass rate based on the Arizona nursing board guidelines is a score of 75% in the written portion of the exam and 80% on the skills test.
Some individuals can qualify to work as a nursing assistant without training or a certification exam. Women and men who are certified as nursing assistants in another state can petition the Board of Nursing to accept their certification in Arizona. Men and women who hold a nursing degree from an accredited school can petition to become a nursing assistant without further training.
