The Department of Health Services in Arkansas granted the responsibility of creating the nursing assistant certification exams to the Prometric Company. This company maintains all testing sites and as well as the Nursing Assistant Registry in Arkansas. Before working as a CNA in Arkansas, you will need to pass a state certified training course and the nursing assistant certification exam. The exam must be passed within one year of completing y our training course or you will need to attend a new course. Students are able to repeat the certification exam 3 times in Arkansas before being required to repeat training.
Individuals who have finished their training course, will be able to decide where they want to take the certification exam. If training was completed at a healthcare facility, the exam can often be taken onsite. Otherwise, individuals can schedule testing at one of the Prometric testing sites for certified nursing assistants. Students must submit paperwork to apply to sit for the exam. Within a couple weeks, they will receive notice of the date and time of testing. You will need to make certain that you are listed in the Nursing Assistant Registry upon completion of all requirements for certification.
The rules and regulations of the Arkansas state nursing board requires that candidates complete their competency exam within 1 year of completing their CNA training and with a maximum of 3 attempts to complete both the written and skills portion of the competency test. If an individual fails to do this than he/she will be required to take the CNA course again and retake the exam.
In order to keep your license active you have to work for a minimum of 8 hours in the most recent 24 months that has passed for a monetary compensation, failure to do so will result in your license being de-activated and you will have to take the test again.
The tests are in 2 sections, 1 being the written test and the other that tests your practical skills. You can take the test in any given order and it is not a must that you have to pass 1 before you can do the other, the only rule to this is like mentioned earlier you have 3 attempts per test in a time frame of 12 months.
Passing the Competency Exam
All results are mailed to the respective individuals within 10 days of completing the exam; if the individual has passed both tests he/she will also be mailed there certificate for completion and their name will be added to the state nursing aide registry.
If you failed your exam, a complete analysis of what was wrong in the exam will be provided to help you better understand where you had your mistakes. In the skills part of the exam you will be told on which skills you did not perform according to the rules set out. If this was your 1st time doing the exam you will be given a retest form in order for you to take the exam again. *Note: if you have completed 1 exam and failed 1 you will only be required to retake the failed exam, you will not be asked to do the exam that you’ve already passed.
