There are several nursing assistant training programs available for individuals interested in working as CNAs in the state. In order to receive certification, an individual must attend a state approved training course and pass the subsequent nursing assistant competency exam. A large number of nursing assistants in the state of Alaska state that they intend to advance their training to become licensed practical nurses or even registered nurses in the future. The state on Alaska is in a shortage of Nursing specialist now more than ever and its expected that in the next 10 years this demand will only keep growing in numbers. Becoming CNA can be great for those who either want to start at an entry level position in the nursing industry and then advance their careers further or need a good secured job for the years to come.
There are a few conditions you will have to meet before you can enroll yourself into a CNA class. The more important ones of those are that you have to be a minimum of 18 years of age and that you should not have a criminal background.
One of the best nursing assistant training courses in Alaska is offered by the Alaska Institute of Technology (AVTEC) in cooperation with the Providence Health System. Information on the program can be accessed by contacting the University’s Allied Health Program. This training program is more extensive than most others in the state (and even throughout the country) with 230 instruction hours required. The state requires only 100 hours of total training for approved nursing assistant training programs. Students who attend the AVTEC nursing assistant training course will have four weeks of classroom instruction and then will spend four weeks of clinical training. Assistive living facilities are used as the location for clinical training. The AVTEC CNA training programs teaches student basic life support skills as well as the most common nursing assistant skills. Students learn good time management and how to communicate in an effective manner with patients as well as co-workers to provide top-notch care. the full length of the course is 38 days, This includes Clinical hours and class room time.
