Contact one of the Adult Learning Centers in your area. Many of these centers offer training options for individuals who want to train for a career but who are unable to afford the training. For example, you can receive free nursing assistant training if you qualify for assistants through the Adult Learning Centers in the Bronx and in Harlem.
You can become a certified nursing assistant in New York City by applying for the free program that is offered by the Visiting Nurse Service. This course will qualify you to sit for the necessary certification exam upon completion. Please keep in mind that although this program is tuition free, you will need to purchase your own textbook.
It is possible to receive training vouchers through Workforce 1 if you qualify. You will need to complete an application to determine if you qualify for a tuition voucher. The voucher can then be used as nursing assistant training centers that accept Workforce 1 vouchers. Keep in mind that it will take several months before you learn if you qualify for free training. This program is available within the boroughs of New York City.
