At least 9,000 certified nursing assistants are employed in Hawaii. Nursing assistants must attend a state approved training program and pass all portions of the competency exam before receiving certification. There are not an abundance of training programs available in Hawaii. Most programs have a tuition of a few hundred dollars or more. However, you can sometimes find options to receive your cna training for free. See below for a list of free training options available to you.
You should consider employer-sponsored training if you are looking to receive nursing assistant training at no cost to you. This training is offered through nursing care and long-term care facilities. The facility will hire you to work for them as a certified nursing assistant and will pay for all costs associated with training and certification. You will need to sign a contract agreeing to work for the employer for a given amount of time after becoming certified.
If you are currently working for a nursing care facility and wish to change careers, talk to your employer. They might be willing to provide you with the necessary training to become a certified nursing assistant if they have a high demand for qualified individuals. This is definitely an option if you are a good employee with a positive work history for the employer.
Start searching for nursing assistant training programs in your area. Contact the program coordinators to determine if any financial assistance options are available. Many training programs do offer at least a couple scholarships for qualified individuals. If you are attending a training program offered through a local college, you might even be eligible to apply for financial aid and scholarships.
In the state of Hawaii, it is often possible to receive assistance to cover the cost of training for a new career if you are unemployed or receive welfare benefits from the state. You should contact your county assistance office or unemployment office to determine if you qualify to receive financial assistance to pay for the cost of nursing assistant certification training.
Note: The following nursing homes DO NOT provide CNA training by themselves. It is usually a common practice for nursing homes to employ you and then pay for your CNA Training at another Training centre.
