You can become a certified nursing assistant in the state of Michigan by completing a training program that meets all criteria set forth by the state and then by passing the certification exam for nursing assistants. Once you receive certification there are steps you will need to take to keep that certification active. It is necessary to work at least 8 hours in a two year period, otherwise your certification can become inactive. Nursing assistants must also complete 12 hours of continuing education credits annually.
Continuing education credits are often available as in-service training at your place of employment. If you do not complete the required credits each year, your certification can become invalid. If your certification ever comes invalid, it will be necessary to complete a certification class again and to pass the certification exam. Nursing assistants earn an average salary of $23,000. There are opportunities to increase your salary with years of experience and depending on the setting in which you work. A career as a nursing assistant provides you with a good entry level career in healthcare with training that does not cost much money. In some cases, you can even receive reimbursement for your training by your employer.
The state nursing board demands that before colleges register students, they have to do a thorough background check of the student before he can be enrolled for the classes which mean any criminal offence in the last 15 years from the time of the application can turn down a student from enrolling for the class.
