If you are interested in an entry-level healthcare career, you can start training as a certified nursing assistant. To start employment as a CNA, you will need to enroll in and complete a training program that was approved by the state. You will also need to pass both portions of the certification exam for nursing assistants. There is a growing demand for qualified CNAs in the state of Indiana. You can find training programs through healthcare facilities and community colleges (as well as some other learning institutions). You might even find a nursing assistant training program at a local nursing school.
An example of a training program in Indiana is available at Ivy Tech College. This is an extensive training program with 120 instructional hours. Eighty of those hours will spent in clinical training. Most training programs require students to have a high school diploma or equivalent and to have reached at least the age of eighteen. Training programs are designed to teach students the skills they need to provide quality care to patients whether in a healthcare facility or a home health setting. Training courses are inexpensive and generally last for only a few weeks. Some programs will last for an entire semester if they are offered at a college.
Ivy Tech
Ivy Tech does not have a training program but they do facilitate for the state approved CNA Competency Exam and they have been carrying out these exam sessions since 2009. They usually take up to 30 days to process your request to sit for the CNA test. If you fail your exam you can always re take it through Ivy Tech, all you need to do is send them the relevant details with your failed exam results and a letter to retake the test and together with it you’ll have to pay for the exams again which is $65 and $75 for the skills and Theory portion respectively.
All applications have to be sent to the following address
PO Box 1621
Indianapolis, IN 46206
Once you pass your test you should give at least eight weeks before you get your registry number and be included in the online registry. However test results are given out the same day candidates come for their exams. For the convenience of candidates Ivy Tech has also organized for exams to be held on Saturdays (kindly ask for more details on timing on Saturdays if you wish to do your exam on that day).
